The story behind BatWiser
For over five years, I have been working with Apple computers. As an engineer, I am well aware that charging a lithium-ion battery to 80% significantly reduces its wear and tear. I use this technique for both smartphones and laptops.
Having gone through several generations of Apple devices, I can confidently say that charging the battery to 80% results in an annual battery wear rate of 1-2%, which is very low.
This is especially notable when compared to the devices of my acquaintances, who are less diligent about their charging habits—their devices typically experience a battery wear rate of 10% per year or more.
I developed the BatWiser application for my personal use to receive audio alerts when the battery is charged to a user-defined percentage. However, I am ready to share this program with anyone interested in preserving their laptop battery’s longevity.
